Will Michael Powell's FCC Wipe Out Media Diversity for Bush?
Two pieces today, one by Paul Krugman, and another in the Times about Michael Powell’s pending final destruction of media diversity in this country show why Karl Rove and George W. Bush will soon have total control over what you see on TV, hear on most radio (hello Clear Channel), or read in the newspapers.
There are three ways to deal with this that jump out at me. First, fight this through your congressmember or Senator (and probably lose when the Bush-dominated FCC votes it in on June 2). Second, we can make it a campaign issue next year tied to the contributions that Bush and the GOP have received from media companies. And lastly, each of us can get our international news from the Internet and cable systems that offer the BBC or the CBC.
