Due to an office move today, I will be offline the remainder of the day and not able to check back in on the site until later today. So for your posting benefit, I'll open up a thread for a topic(s) of your choice for the remainder of the day.
Another challenge that I am facing centers on work. Without getting too much into it, as you can imagine the budget situation in California is occupying much of my time, since I am a senior manager with a state government department here. As such, I have been burdened, and will apparently be even more burdened with program cuts and layoffs in the coming months.
I have never posted anything on the California budget situation or the recall campaign, although that may change in the coming days. Suffice it to say that in addition to pay and benefit cuts that will affect me personally, the California bureaucracy that on a per capita basis is one of the leanest in the country will be shrunk anywhere from 6,000-20,000 positions more, regardless of whether Democratic or GOP budget cuts are enacted. The terrible task of informing those staff to be laid off of their plight has already, and will continue to fall to senior managers like me. Much of my time in the last four weeks has been gobbled up in survival drills aimed at saving whatever and whomever we can, but we face more bad news each day that makes those efforts demoralizing.
But then some of you have been out of work and face greater hardships than I do, so I'll stop the whining now.
Post away and I'll catch up with all of you later.
