Lieberman and Clark Pull Out of Iowa

by Steve

Making it official, Joe Lieberman and Wesley Clark pulled out of Iowa today, with both saying they will focus on later contests. Lieberman's staff says they'll focus on South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Arizona. Clark's people say he will not try to win or place in New Hampshire, but will aim to possibly come in third.

In Lieberman's case, it is a matter of not having enough money to be a national candidate anymore. In Clark's case, the late start and knowing already that you won't place in either Iowa or New Hampshire makes it a smart move to focus on later contests and hope that the others in the top four bloody each other.
