Describing a miserable failure

by Duckman GR

Anthea wrote in the comments I have been reading for a week now, trying to put it all together for myself. I still keep coming to the same conclusions:

.......

I wandered into this website a week or two ago, and have been hoping for some intelligent argument with facts to back it up. I want to argue the DEM point of view, but don't have the facts or the direction.

Bush agrees to an extended 9/11 commission, but that can't be good, it must be self-serving. Saddam is captured, but that can't be good, it must have been staged. And Osama on ice??? Any other conspiracy theories out there? I thought the Clinton Conspiracy Theorists were nuts. Are you people trying to give them a run for their money?

Honestly, our President (like it or not) truly strikes me as a good man who asks for guidance, listens to his amazingly intelligent staff, and honestly hopes he leads this country in the right direction. I don't agree with all of his policy decisions, but I think the man should get some kind of credit for TRYING to do right.

Any argument to the contrary does not appear to be backed up with fact, but with speculation, inuendo, and (God Help Us) FLORIDA!

Can someone PROVE me wrong, please?

Well, that's a tall order, and the reason the blogosphere has grown in popularity. Let's see what we can do.

Bush claims that capturing Saddam has made us more secure. He also made the claim that invading Iraq would do the same, because that would eliminate the threat that Hussein's misnomered WMD's posed to us. But Saddam Hussein was over there in Iraq, and we're here, in the US of A. The terrorists attacked us here, and they had nothing to do with Iraq. They came from, our intelligence thinks, Saudi Arabia, not Iraq. There are no real reputible links between Iraq and al-Quaeda, no matter how many times Bush says those names together in his speeches. And in the meantime, the anthrax attack remains unsolved, and now someone is sending Senators and the White House ricin. But Bush is protecting America. I guess his efforts just came up a bit short there. And here's the kicker in the ricin incident,

Ricin was also found in a vial accompanying a letter addressed to the White House in November, law enforcement sources confirmed yesterday, but the incident was never made public and the Secret Service delayed sharing the information with the FBI and other federal officials. (my bold)

So despite all the money we've spent on "Homeland Security" the Secret Service, who guards the President and VP and others, can't be bothered to communicate with the FBI and others about a threat to our GOVERNMENT!?!?!?

Oh, and, there aren't any WMD's in Iraq. So says David Kay, George Bush's hand picked investigator. Let me begin by saying, we were almost all wrong, and I certainly include myself here, Kay said.

Let's look at the budget that Bush announced this week, for 2005. Bush says that he was confident that he could cut the deficit in half in five years by working with Congress “to bring fiscal discipline to the appropriations process.” He implies that he can squeeze the budget of waste and redundency and out of date spending to solve the budget deficits. Yet, in this article here we see that the Bush plan would eliminate 65 programs and cut back 63 others, but the total savings for next year would add up to only $4.9 billion. By comparison, the White House is predicting that the federal deficit will hit $521 billion this year and $364 billion in 2005. Yet somehow, someway, $4.9 billion is going to equal $521 billion. This I gotta see.

Oh, wait, there's more. Remember the big hoopla over the Medicare Reform Bill? I think we discussed this here at the blog in some detail. Did you read the articles and the analysis by Blog Lord Steve? Please do. The man either lied about the costs, or he didn't have a clue about the costs. Which do you find more comforting?

Now remember, Bush wants to squeeze waste out of the system, just like Arnold wants to do here in Kali fornia. So how do you explain wasting $12.6 million on an ad campaign lobbying seniors on how good the new Medicare bill is going to be? (Just scroll down past the other outrages til you get to "Waste, Fraud, and Abuse") A good use of our taxpayer monies? Money taken from HHS that would and should go to providing HHS services to the poor and needy, but which is going to go to make TV commercials, and benefit, by the by, a Bush crony/supporter.

And this is just in the last few days, Anthea. And nearly every day you can find more stories, on the net, in the fibers of dead trees, in the humming airwaves of the tinfoil set, that illuminate similar achievements.

The facts are that Bush has pretty much lied about everything. We aren't united. He doesn't care about future generations. He said he wouldn't leave our problems on our childrens backs, yet that is precisely what he's doing with the budget and our economy. And our military forays. He's leaving the children behind, he's throwing the seniors aside, he's killing our soldiers, he's short changing the heroes of 9/11, heroes who responded to the crisis instead of sitting in a classroom reading a book to 5 year olds and then flying around in circles over Florida (Florida again!?!?!) Look at the pictures of Bush on that day. Look closely at them. Did he ask Andy Card any questions? Did he say anything at all? He didn't want to upset the children. HE DIDN'T WANT TO UPSET THE CHILDREN??? What about the rest of the country?

A good man? Nope. Sorry. A coward who's never had to work a day in his life, and is too sold on his perceived greatness to recognize his true insignificance.

Keep reading, Anthea, just keep reading. Just read with a critical eye. Who benefits, who loses. Follow the money, Anthea, you can't go too wrong there.
