Chalabi Loses Funding

by Mary

Congress decided to stop paying Ahmed Chalabi and his group for their service to this country, or more precisely, for providing lies for the Bush administration that were used to take the US into a war in Iraq.

Mr. Chalabi's group has received at least $27 million in United States financing in the past four years, the Iraqi National Congress official said. This includes $335,000 a month as part of a classified program through the Defense Intelligence Agency, since the summer of 2002, to help gather intelligence in Iraq. The official said his group had been told that financing will cease June 30, when occupation authorities are scheduled to turn over sovereignty to Iraqis.

What did we get for the money we paid these liars? Well, one thing they did was to put forward Iraqi defectors such as, Adnan Ihsan Saeed al Haideri, who said he had knowledge of Saddam's WMD. After the invasion, it was clear that Saeed had no knowledge and had simply lied. This information was used in a White House background paper cited by Bush in his US speech in 2002 and has since been proven wrong, yet is still posted on the White House site without correction.

The White House had been warned that Saeed was unreliable by the intelligence agencies before the administration used his lies.

Last weekend, Colin Powell cited Saeed and two other defectors as sources for the faulty intelligence that mislead the country about the WMD.

So finally, Chalabi will no longer get paid $4 million per year for having colluded with the Bush administration to take us into this terrible war. Would that we could so easily cut off Bush and his gang of thiefs for their part in this disaster.
