Republican Convention To Feature Schwarzenegger

Worrying that independent and moderate voters are turned off by the harsh fist of conservatism, the Republicans will try to convince voters that they are a big tent as Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks in prime time. The Times reports that it is the Democrats that have been painting a false picture of the Republicans who really aren't that far out of the mainstream.

But Republican officials now hope the governor's broad appeal will help undo Democratic efforts to paint the party as doctrinaire.

Other "moderate" voices at the Republican Convention will be John McCain and Democratic Senator Zell Miller. But what will the conservative base think? Or perhaps they are okay with being shunted once more to the non-primetime section of the Convention?
