Everybody's Touchy about Touch Screen Voting
Paul Krugman mentions a story that you probably won't see on TV:
The Washington Times is reporting that Florida GOP members are warning their base to be wary of the touch-screen voting machines.
The Republican party advised Miami voters to use absentee ballots because there is no paper trail for touch screens and they can't "verify your vote."
Democrats have been making that argument for months, but Gov. Jeb Bush, his elections director and Republican legislators insist that it's wrong.
The mailer from the Republican party of Florida said: "The liberal Democrats have already begun their attacks and the new electronic voting machines do not have a paper ballot to verify your vote in case of a recount. Make sure your vote counts. Order your absentee ballot today."
I guess they are alright in Broward County or in California, but not quite secure enough to handle votes in contested Florida counties. Funny about that.
