Bush Abdicates Presidential Leadership on Iraq

by paradox

His Pretzeldent spoke at a journalist convention this morning (it looked like a circus, there were so many clowns) and came up with this gem:

"``We will stay there until the job is completed and our commanders on the ground tell us,'' Bush said. ``I think it's very important for those of us in the political arena to listen to the commanders on the ground.'''

Nobody ever said it wasn't important to listen to generals. What is important is that the United States has a president who leads.

What Bush is saying here is that it's the general's responsibility to decide when we get out of that utterly futile hellhole, not his. Of course there are never, ever any specific criteria offered to define what "completed" really means.

Just as naturally the clowns--er, journalists--never demand that criteria for "completed," and they never ask Bush why he can't make that judgment or even be specific what the criteria is.

The US says its killed over 300 Iraqi fighters in the last 2 days. Nobody is ever adult enough to say so, but it's fair to say that doesn't meet any criteria for "completion."
