Clueless In New York

by Steve

Bush said the CIA was “just guessing” about how Iraq will turn out when it released it’s latest NIE, which Bush probably didn’t read.

After a speech to the UN General Assembly, Bush was asked about a National Intelligence Estimate in July that said the best to be expected was a tenuous stability and that the country might descend into civil war.

"The CIA laid out several scenarios that said life could be lousy, life could be OK, life could be better," Bush said. "And they were just guessing as to what the conditions might be like. The Iraqi citizens are defying the pessimistic predictions."

So does this mean the CIA was "just guessing" when it issued its October 2002 NIE on Saddam's WMD program?

I’m sure the Iraqi citizens find that defying these “pessimistic predictions” are all the more difficult when three US soldiers were killed just today, as well as ten more Iraqis and nearly a hundred injured just in Baghdad.
