"Ask Not For Whom Will Toil Trolls..."
The (s)election of 2004, regardless of who wins, will go down in history as the smarmiest on record. There seems to be no act too low for the mindless morons of the Republican rank-and-file towillingly perform, especially if it feeds off of their base coarseness. Such acts on their part merely exposes their blatant hypocrisy once they wrap themselves up in Christianity to justify their un-Christian acts. But they are only emulating their leaders in that behavior. Anyone whose attention span lasts longer than the seven minutes between commercial breaks knows this.
The reason I have shut down comments on my posts is I don't have the time to sit and edit these posts and still work on new ones. Bringing about this situation of commentary gridblock is what these trolls intend, for if we are too busy dealing with their spew of vileness, we can't be exposing the vileness and veniality of their leaders. Some commenters have stated that the sort of comment activity inspired by the trolls causes them not to come here to The Left Coaster, which effectively shuts us down - another goal of the trolls.
There are plenty of places on the Internet for the children to indulge in Pee-Wee Herman-style debates ("I know you are! So what am I?"), so The Left Coaster doesn't need to descend into that snake pit.
Each poster here is dedicated to the dissemination of information and our opinions, and when we weren't attracting trolls we were having some interesting discussions. But when we the attract "I'm right and you can admit it" crowd, that all gets shot to hell. I don't have a good answer to that problem. When the barbarians are at the gate, one has to act, and the action choices aren't necessarily the most desirable.
I miss having rational discussions with our readers, but until the lunatics have been returned to the Asylum for the Politically Inane, that can't happen. I don't want to succumb to their incipid madness and have nothing to offer but the sort of vile epithets that trolls thrive on.
Vile epithets aren't going to solve the nation's problems.
