Don't Stand Pat!

by pessimist

Pat Robertson in on a Crusade! Leading an small invasion of the faithful into Israel to capture Jerusalem for God, he thundered mightily as if the Supreme were standing next to him on the podium.

In two Jerusalem appearances, Robertson Sunday praised Israel as part of God's plan and criticized Arab countries and some Muslims, saying their hopes to include Israeli-controlled land in a Palestinian state are part of "Satan's plan."

"I see the rise of Islam to destroy Israel and take the land from the Jews and give East Jerusalem to [Palestinian Authority Chairman] Yasser Arafat. I see that as Satan's plan to prevent the return of Jesus Christ the Lord," said Robertson, a Christian broadcaster.

Lord, save me from your followers!

In a gathering of more than 4,000 pilgrims at a Jerusalem convention center Sunday, Robertson warned that some Muslims were trying to foil "God's plan" to let Israel hold on to its lands. Only God should decide if Israel should relinquish control of the lands it captured in the 1967 war, including the Gaza Strip, West Bank and East Jerusalem, Robertson said, in a reference to Sharon's plan to pull out of Gaza next year. "God says, 'I'm going to judge those who carve up the West Bank and Gaza Strip,'" Robertson said. "'It's my land and keep your hands off it.'"

Stong words, Pat. Based on this next quote of yours, are you sure that it was God, and not you, that claims Jerusalem for your own ends?

"The President has backed away from [the road map], but if he were to touch Jerusalem, he'd lose all Evangelical support," Robertson said. "Evangelicals would form a third party" because, though people "don't know about" Gaza, Jerusalem is an entirely different matter.

This is scary! With these words, Robertson almost admits that those Christians who follow him know very litte about what is really going on, and that he has the key to influencing them. As he states above, he's willing to use this key influence for his own ends, even against George Mammon-Worshipper Bu$h should he not play the game by Pat's Rules.

But Pat proceeds to demonstrate what a hypocrite he is:

Robertson, an outspoken supporter of Israel who is in the country to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, also added that visitors to Israel should not be overly critical of the government's political decisions. He has refrained from overtly criticizing Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan and says only that he hopes the "Israeli people will make the right decision" in matters of territorial concessions. "It is unwise for a visitor from America to get involved in Israeli politics," he stated at a press conference in the capital's International Convention Center.

But it's OK for a visitor from Israel (Robertson's version of Jesus) to get involved in American politics?

The Founding Fathers created the separation of church and state for this very reason. They knew of the reasons groups like the Pilgrims came to America (the right to practice their religion without interference from government), and they also knew that these same religious groups began to practice the same oppression against 'unorthodox' religious expression when they achieved the creation of their own places of worship tied to temporal political power. They knew that in Europe, such combinations led to some of the most horrendous wars in history. They didn't want to see that happen here in America, so they put up the barrier that people like Pat Robertson want to rend asunder.

Republican lies that liberals are anti-religion, and that liberals would ban the Bible, resonate with those who don't know what a Gaza is. Their willful ignorance is what makes it possible for demigogues like Robertson to wield power in their quest to dominate the world in the name of their version of God - and woe betide those who stand in their way, for they are the self-appointed Vengeance.

People like Robertson stand to gain materially from such actions. Is it thus any wonder that they promote religion and it's ostrich-like demeanor at the same time they oppose the education that would expose them for the frauds and hypocrites they are?

What WOULD Jesus Do? Ask Him yourself. You don't need Pat Robertson to interpret for you.
