Bush's Gift of Freedom for the Iraqis

by Mary

Remember when George W Bush talked about bringing freedom and democracy to Iraq? Afterall, Bush professes to love freedom, to love democracy and to value life.

Well, we in the United States are paying a pretty price for his neocon vision (well, one can say it's only a few hundred billion per year and only some of our civil liberties).

The troops in Iraq are paying dearly for the privilege of fighting over there to bring freedom to Iraq for a people who it turns out would be happier if we left after months of incompetence and avarice from the civilian leadership.

But the price paid by the Iraqis for Bush's war of choice is the most dear of all: some 100,000 civilians have died in Iraq in the past 18 months and this total does not count the deaths in Falluja. And as the article says, most of them were women and children.

My soul weeps for the Iraqis and for what we have become.

...and how many deaths will it take till we know that too many people have died? The answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind.
