NASA's new Galaxy Evolution Explorer telescope has discovered at least 3 dozen baby galaxies. These galaxies have stars that emit energy in mostly ultraviolet light and are much smaller than the traditional galaxies like the Milky Way. The closest baby galaxy is about one billion light-years away from Earth. Astronomers expect to find more baby galaxies as the Galaxy Evolution Explorer telescope continues to scan the skies.

And as an update to Cal Pol's story about the Washington recount, it looks like Democrat Christine Gregorie has pulled ahead by 8 votes in the hand count. This is without the extra 700 votes that have not yet been counted and that the state Supreme Court will decide today whether they can be included or not.
