Ohio Secretary Of State Ken Blackwell Goes Off The Deep End

by Steve

Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell is apparently already running for Governor of Ohio. At least, it appears that he is, judging from an incredible fundraising letter his office has confirmed he sent out at the end of December asking for campaign contributions for his race for Governor. The letter was obtained by the website Raw Story.

According to Raw Story, in the letter, Blackwell boasted that he helped “deliver” Ohio to Bush, and that he was “truly pleased” to announce that Bush had won Ohio even before all of the votes were counted.

I almost think this letter from Blackwell is a fake, for several reasons. First, the strident and arrogant tone of the letter, and the harshness of the appeal for money so soon are appalling, as is the bragging about how the state was delivered. Second, in his appeal for money, Blackwell is asking for large amounts quickly, and says in an outwardly Christian appeal that he needs to be elected for cultural reasons. Third, the letter is an outright attack by Blackwell not only against liberal Democrats, but also against the mainstream Ohio GOP and Governor Taft. In other words, if the letter is accurate, Blackwell is revealing himself to be a far-right religious lunatic bent on going to war against the GOP as well.

Those of you who know Ohio politics can weigh in on this issue. But if the letter is true, it appears that Blackwell is not only delusional, but an embarrassment to the national GOP and White House that the Democrats can use to their benefit.

Are you having fun now, Mr. Rove?
