Bush Loses A Key Democrat on Privatization

Democratic Senator Max Baucus, who was influential in helping Bush get his 2001 and 2003 tax packages through Congress, came out tonight and told Bush “forget it” on privatizing Social Security. Remember that Bush needs five Democratic Senators to get his plan through, and possibly six if Arlen Specter votes against it as well. Also remember that Bush has scuttled working on his tax giveaways to the rich and Corporate America until next year on the assumption that he could ram through privatization this year.

What if he doesn’t deliver on either?
