"Mayberry Machiavelli" Is Now Formally In Charge Of Homeland And National Security Policy Development
by Steve

The Mayberry Machiavellis are now formally in charge.
Just when you thought the cravenness of this White House couldn’t get any worse, you get sickened even more. Today, the president’s master political strategist and pollster was put in charge of all White House policy development and coordination of the Domestic Policy Council, the National Economic Council, the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council.
Yes, that’s right. Hold your stomach kids. Karl Rove is no longer the president’s chief political hack. Bush promoted Turdblossom today to Deputy Chief of Staff. What Karl did for steel tariffs and farm subsidies that led to WTO threats, tax cuts that destroyed the surplus, and the disenfranchisement of black voters, he can now do for all domestic and foreign policy.
For a president who claims he doesn’t pay attention to polls when depending on his moral clarity to guide him, Bush just formally gave the big lie to all of that nonsense by putting his political guru in charge of domestic, national security, and economic policy. Just as John DiIulio said in 2002 about this White House having the most barren policy operation in years, Bush has now at least admitted that to him all policy is nothing more than politics, and the policies now will formally be whatever is good for Bush personally, the country be damned.
Can someone explain to me what makes Karl Rove qualified to oversee the development of policy and coordinate the activities for homeland security, national security, and economics? Why is a political weasel like Rove involved at all in national and homeland security policy in a post 9/11 world? I'm sure the Pentagon brass and the FBI think highly of this.
Did you need any more confirmation as to why we no longer have terror alerts, now that Bush has been safely given four more years? How clear is it now that those terror alerts during the campaign were nothing more than political fear weapons aimed at the American electorate last year?
Well, Rove can now get to work convincing his own party in the Congress that they should swallow Bush’s budget cuts and his Social Security privatization plan, both of which are losing support as I write this.
And when he fails, we’ll get to see how good Rove really is.
