Democrats Should Campaign Against DeLay Like Gingrich Did Against Dem Leadership In 1994

by Steve

This is one more argument Democrats should use in running against the GOP stranglehold on Congress next year. Remember back in 1994 when Newt Gingrich claimed that Tom Foley and the Democratic leadership were entrenched and corrupted powerbrokers in bed with special interests? Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer should dust off Newt’s rhetoric, change the names, and hammer the message nationally and in each GOP member’s district that the Hastert/DeLay entrenched GOP leadership is only interested in protecting their backsides, their power, and the special interests that line their pockets. The Democrats should make this personal and campaign against DeLay until it becomes toxic for GOP incumbents to be seen with him. Yes, that means demonizing him. What’s good for the GOP to seize power in 1994 is good for the Democrats to reclaim it in 2006.
