A Tale Of Two Presidents
by pessimist
Further down this column is a post by Blog Lord Steve Soto about Bill Clinton's continuing popularity in Europe. In part, the article had this to say:
While Romans were unlikely to catch a glimpse of President Bush - he moved only in motorcades and appeared only at a few official events - Mr. Clinton was clearly reveling in the fact that shoppers, tourists having lunch at outdoor cafes and Italian business people walking to meetings all stopped to greet him. There was certainly a lot of affection for Mr. Clinton, who consistently got better press here during his presidency than Mr. Bush does.
This is the greeting King George got:
When Bush's face appeared on giant screen TVs showing the ceremony, many in the crowds outside St. Peter's Square booed and whistled. He left Rome immediately after the service.
Gee - I wonder why?
