Will The Larry Franklin Indictments Snare Another Bush Administration Official?

by Steve

I mentioned earlier today that Bob Novak might be spooked because the US attorney investigating former Pentagon analyst Larry Franklin and his alleged leaks of classified information to AIPAC officials (who have since been fired) and an Israeli government official filed indictments today against the former AIPAC officials and modified the indictment against Franklin. Tonight, in a story from the JTA, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, a Jewish news service, it is revealed that according to the defense counsels for the former AIPAC officials Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, two US government officials were also involved in leaking classified information to Israel. As for whom this may be, read the following:

A source close to the defense said that one of the U.S. officials involved, who has not been indicted, was recently appointed to a senior Bush administration post. The source, who asked not to be identified, would not name the official.
In 2002, Rosen relayed information about the terrorist group Al-Qaida from another government official -- the official a defense source says was recently promoted to a senior government position -- to other AIPAC officials, the indictment alleges.

OK, let’s play along. Who is a US official, who would have knowledge of intelligence about Al Qaeda, who was recently appointed to a senior Bush Administration post? And keep in mind that "recent" may mean within the last half-year or so.
