With Straight Face, Bush Lectures UN On Human Rights And Gaining Respect
by Steve

“When this great institution’s member states choose notorious abusers of human rights to sit on the UN Human Rights Commission, they discredit a noble effort and undermine the credibility of the whole organization…If member countries want the United Nations to be respected and effective, they should begin by making sure it is worthy of respect."
--Bush, today, lecturing the UN
With all of the grace of Tom DeLay giving a lecture on ethics, Mr. Empty Suit showed up at the UN today.
Today’s chutzpah award goes, as it does many days, to the Master of Abu Ghraib and Pottery Barn manager of Iraq, who has the gall to lecture other countries about their abuse of human rights, and the UN about its lack of respect around the world. Looking in the mirror is an alien concept to Mr. Bush, who received nothing but silence in his speech today, a stark contrast to the reception that Clinton received from the UN even in the midst of the Lewinsky stupidity. Perhaps the UN was already appreciative for the fine work done by his bomb-thrower John Bolton (as Pessimist tipped us off to several days ago), in his efforts to bring the Bush concept of “respect” to the world body. And if you don't believe me that Bolton has already succeeded in derailing the UN, read the comments of Dr. Roger Coate of the University of South Carolina today in a Washington Post online chat.
What really pisses the right wing off is that they were hoping to get a few weeks of bad press for the UN when the oil-for-food report came out. But that pesky Hurricane Katrina and the associated Bush negligence sucked all the oxygen out of those wet dreams. So now, all they are left with is a hypocritical speech by a man who wouldn’t know respect, accountability, and morality if they were printed in large font in “My Pet Goat.”
Update: Thanks to Reuters, we now know why they look the way they do. Bush was asking Condi for a potty break. (I wish I was kidding.) Maybe W had just unloaded a SBD.
