People Who Live In Glass Houses.....

by Steve

Then:

"We do know, with absolute certainty, that he is using his procurement system to acquire the equipment he needs in order to enrich uranium to build a nuclear weapon."
--Cheney, "Meet the Press", September 8, 2002

"(It’s) been pretty well confirmed, that he (Atta) did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April, several months before the attack."
--Cheney, "Meet the Press", December 9, 2001

"Saddam Hussein is harboring terrorists and the instruments of terror. He is pressing forward with weapons of mass destruction…. His regime has had high-level contacts with al Qaeda going back a decade and has provided training to al Qaeda terrorists. And as the President has said, "Iraq could decide on any given day to provide biological or chemical weapons to a terrorist group or to individual terrorists" -- which is why the war on terror will not be won till Iraq is completely and verifiably deprived of weapons of mass destruction."
--Cheney, December 2, 2002, ten months after Rummy’s DIA said the source for some of these claims was likely a known fabricator.

And Now:

"And the suggestion that's been made by some US senators that the president of the United States or any member of this administration purposely misled the American people on pre-war intelligence is one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city…..The president and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone - but we're not going to sit by and let them rewrite history.

We're going to continue throwing their own words back at them."

--Dick Cheney yesterday

Speaking before a Washington dinner of the Frontiers of Freedom Institute, a conservative research organization, Cheney said last night that Democrats who say they were misled by the administration are "making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war."

He (Bush) said it is "patriotic as heck to disagree with the president. It doesn't bother me. What bothers me is when people are irresponsibly using their positions and playing politics. That's exactly what is taking place in America."

I guess Bush and Cheney’s selective memory on how they used 9/11, the war on terra’, and the fear campaign in the run-up to the last two elections is an example of, shall we say, taking political advantage in the middle of a war of choice, playing politics, and rewriting history?

Read this fine piece from Knight Ridder today on how the White House "tinkers with the truth" in its pushback campaign.
