Ask - Dont' Tell - Welcome To The Priesthood?
Maybe I'm missing the moral clarity and consistency shown by the Vatican here. The Catholic Church has dealt with pedophile priests in a questionable way, and has paid out millions of dollars in diocesan funds to pay out settlements as a result. The Catholic Church says that priests cannot marry, and that women cannot be priests.
But now the Vatican is about to say that it's OK to be priest if you haven't been an active gay man for three years?
Commenters have rightly so questioned my original posting, as an apparent and confused linkage of homosexuality and pedophilia, which wasn't my intent. However, it does reinforce that keeping women and marriage out of the priesthood is more important to the Vatican than dealing with pedophiles or banning men with past gay behavior.
