Rummy's Untidy New Iraq Body Count

by Steve

And just like that, the official Department of Defense website that tracks American military fatalities from the Iraq war and occupation now reports 2245 deaths, after suddenly adding more than 135 deaths to its count from just a few days ago. Yet the reputable icasualties.org website still lists the lower number (2108) used by the Associated Press, while mentioning that the DoD had issued no explanation for the sudden increase in the official count. As Atrios says, is this just a typo or the preview of something ominous with these counts that some have been distrusting all along?

Update: Thankfully, the DoD made a mistake, which they have subsequently fixed.
