Making The Skies Over Iraq Less Safe?

by Steve

Several things bothered me when I heard that Bush was planning to draw down ground troops and replace them with an increased air force presence in support of Iraqi troops. First and foremost was the probability that our pilots would be drawn by Iraqi laser spotters into attacking rival militias. The other major concern I had was the likely arming of neighboring countries with surface-to-air missiles by our military competitors, with those weapons systems eventually finding their way into Iraq to be used against our pilots.

It's already coming true.

How bad would it be for our pilots if the Iranians, a newly destabilized Syria, and the insurgents inside Iraq suddenly all had access to SAMs, compliments of the Russians?
