Hammerin' Reminders

by pessimist

Reader Eddy in OKC emailed me the following, and I thought that it was worthy of sharing with all of The Left Coaster readers. With the exception of minor formatting changes, i.e. making the links clickable, it's all his work.

I will accept any replies on his behalf for forwarding if you don't want to express yourself publicly in the comments section at my own email address, available in the left column.

“…Not only will they push back the opening date for the 2006 House session to buy him time to 'settle' his 'minor little difficulty' ...”

Now might be a good time to remind the Rs of all the shit they gave Texas Democratic legislators (“The Killer Ds”) who bolted to OK and NM when the Delay Redistricting scam was afoot.

From CNN:

In comments to reporters, DeLay said the Democrats "ought to stand and fight," not "turn and run."

"They may believe they are clever, but the majority of Texans see them as childish," Texas GOP Chairwoman Sue Weddington said. "And they may believe they are courageous, but the majority of Texans see them as cowards."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican, called the walkout "cowardly and childish" -- a characterization the Democrats disputed.

From National Review

Republican party Executive Director Wayne Hamilton recalled a bit of Texas history when summing up the state's view of the hightailing Democrats: "The fact is, the line was drawn at the Alamo and these guys all cut and run."
From Commondreams:
“…Tom DeLay used federal funds to send Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration to track down the state legislators….”

Oh, and come to find out…

statesman.com (registration req’d) or KWTX TV (emphasis added):

Dec. 2, 2005: Attorney General Alberto Gonzales defends the Justice Department's decision to ignore staff lawyers' concerns that the redistricting plan would dilute minority voting rights. Justice memo shows that agency staffers unanimously objected to the Texas plan.

Hmmmm, “childish, cowardly cowards who should stand and fight and not turn and run….”

That sounds about right.

Thanks,
