Shear Me Not

Sheep Being Led to the Constitutional Slaughter
by Harris Bierhoff

Last week was the 300th birthday of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, who many Republicans and Democrats would agree was a national treasure. Among Franklin’s many important contributions were his adages. One particular adage always stood out to me as the definitive spirit of the United States:
"It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority."
Given the current political climate of government secrecy and civil liberties being traded for assumed protection from a foreign threat, one might for a moment consider the citizenry, as opposed to the government ruling it. It could be reasonably argued that those who are attempting to exercise their right to question authority are meeting with substantial resistance by those in the mainstream media. It could also be reasonably argued that those who are questioning authority have much to fear in the way of government reprisal due to the wiretapping of many non-terrorist Bush critics.

Those who are clearly streamlined in the current dialogue are those who do not question authority. They escape scrutiny by the press, and do not fear their private lives being scrutinized and penalized by the government.

There has always been a word for those who do not question authority: sheep.
It is my assertion that those who do not question and aid the secrecy of Bush’s motivations have willingly made us all sheep being led to the Constitutional slaughter that we are all knowingly and unknowingly experiencing right now.

The media tends to only show a select few people who are intended to represent various political factions. One faction, the DINO-sheep, are represented by Joe Lieberman. The less said now about him, the better.

But another faction, the one that said "We can do better" now has an opportunity to demonstrate the truth of that statement by taking a stand against Sam Alito and the trashing of the US Constitution.

Stand up and be counted, John Kerry! Show that We, the People demand that Bu$hCo do better than Sam Alito:

Message to John Kerry: All You Have to do is Stand up to Take a Stand -- Filibuster Alito.

Now we ask you this, John Kerry:
Who will be the leader that stands up for the Constitution and leads 40 more senators to sustain a filibuster until we stop the betrayal of the American Revolution?
What good is your name in the Congressional Record when you have a Supreme Court that supports an incompetent, law-breaking Caesar with unaccountable power in the White House?

Show us you are a leader, John. Take a stand to defend the nation you once fought for.

We need to see the man who fought courageously in Vietnam, and then came back home to risk everything to ask, "who will be the last man to die for a mistake?" All you have to do is stand up to take a stand, John Kerry.

The least [John Kerry] could do is rise from his Senate chair and begin the fight to restore our Constitutional system of checks and balances, beginning with the words:

"This attack on our Constitution will not stand. Ladies and gentleman, I am not going to stop speaking until we get a Supreme Court nominee from the White House who will uphold our Constitution, our checks and balances, and apply the law to every citizen of America, even the President of the United States."

Stand and speak for us, John. Your time is now. If you have any desires to be president, you must now demonstrate leadership that will convince us that you deserve the job.
