Historical Similarities

by Duckman GR

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union during World War II they made huge territorial advances until Winter, as always the Worst Winter Ever, according to the tales told. Unable to break through the Soviet lines, in part because they were not equipped for winter with proper clothing and supplies, their struggles gave Stalin and Zhukov time to build their forces for the ultimate drive on Berlin.

Also, at the same time, the German people were not fully mobilized on a war footing, forced to scrimp and ration like the US did on our entry into the war.

Why not?

Because they did not want the population to think that the war was impacting their lives, either themselves or their soldiers at the front, because to do so would be to call into the question the purposes and motives of the war, and you can't have the citizenry thinking along those lines, now can you, not when you're conducting an illegal and unwarranted war of aggression as Hitler was doing. Remember, they had signed a non-aggression pact with the USSR before they divyed up Poland.

Well, Six Month Friedman has, via a DKos diary, some questions for Big Time along those lines, titled "Big Talk, Little Will," and introed with this comment, "Unless the party in power for the next two and half years shakes free of its denial, we are in really, really big trouble." [My highlights etc]

Here we are in the biggest struggle of our lives and we are funding both sides -- the U.S. military with our tax dollars and the radical Islamists and the governments and charities that support them with our gasoline purchases -- and you won't lift a finger to change that. Why? Because it might impose pain on the oil companies and auto lobbies that fund the G.O.P., or require some sacrifice by Americans.

Not that there's any comparison between bushco and the Nazi's, sheesh, blogger ethics you know, but these are geo-political realites that have occured all through the course of history, beans and butter and bullets don't you know. Yet it's a question rightly asked, and I'm not holding my breath waiting for an answer from Big Time.

It might behoove the Democrats to work along that line of questioning, in the frame of "...Mr. Cheney, if we're in a titanic struggle with Islamic fascists, why have you and President Bush resisted any serious effort [by Democrats, by god-ed] to get Americans to conserve energy?"

And if we're not, why do you insist on lying to the American People and the World about it? Is their some other reason, perhaps?
