Hysteria About Terrorism Bubbling Over
by Mary
Well, it turns out the flight from the US to India that was diverted to Amsterdam because of suspicious behavior has been determined to be not terrorism. How many incidents have we had in the past few weeks that have been the same - no terror, just hysteria? What it take before people realize that they are being played for fools by those who like to scare people? Are we on the verge of going back to the Salem witch trials where people see devils in whoever happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Here's some words from someone who has lived in terrifying times yet didn't let the fear rule her.
Fearlessness may be a gift but perhaps more precious is the courage acquired through endeavour, courage that comes from cultivating the habit of refusing to let fear dictate one's actions, courage that could be described as 'grace under pressure' - grace which is renewed repeatedly in the face of harsh, unremitting pressure.
It's time for us to say no to fear that blinds us to the ability to see the problems clearly and to be able to act wisely rather than just react thoughtlessly.
