Blowing Smoke To Save One's ...

Former EPA Secretary Christie Whitman is on the hot seat, and I bet her buns are getting burned!

Even though she's known to have assured the Ground Zero workers that the air was safe to breathe [as did Rudy Giuliani], she now claims that she didn't have the authority to enforce safety rules, but Michael Cardozo, the city's corporation counsel, responded:

"Ms. Whitman's latest comments do not reflect what happened in the days and weeks after this attack," Cardozo said. "The city obtained respirators for employees and workers, and stressed every day repeatedly that their use was required while working on the pile or performing certain tasks."

A study from the Mount Sinai Medical Center says nearly 70 percent of the ground zero rescue and cleanup workers have since had trouble breathing, and many will probably be sick for the rest of their lives,
