Rove's Chief Assistant Resigns Over Abramoff Contacts

Look what happens in the late Friday afternoon news dump. After being outed last week for having numerous contacts and accepting thousands of dollars in gifts from Jack Abramoff, Rove's chief assistant Susan Ralston resigns today so that she will not be a distraction between now and the midterms. Note how quickly the White House wanted her gone and the case closed.

The story of her involvement with Abramoff and acceptance of gifts from him caused only a slight ripple beyond the day it was reported last week, once the White House said it would open a whitewashing ethics inquiry on Ralston. So why would the White House feel today that she could be a distraction, unless . . .
