Iraq: More Of The Same Failure

by Steve

I hope all of you had a happy and safe holiday. And now, back to our world.

As Bush readies to maintain the status quo by escalating his way into a plan to “win” after the first of the year, the bombings continue in Iraq today, with dozens more killed in separate instances in multiple cities. Six more US soldiers were killed over the last two days, raising the total loss of American soldiers in Iraq past the number of Americans killed on 9/11, and now only 22 shy of the 3000 threshold. Yet as Bush plans to side with SCIRI and al-Hakim against al-Sadr, with the disapproval of both Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, he will have to explain why his new allies are getting direct assistance from Iran.

I have to give McCain some credit today for putting his son where his mouth is.

Iraq’s oil industry is still struggling from a lack of security and a resulting lack of foreign investment, and nowhere near paying for the country's needs.

And in a metaphor for Condi Rice and Bush’s failures in Iraq, her State Department keeps issuing a weekly report on how the administration is meeting the goals in last year’s failed “plan” for victory that end up confirming that failure. Yet we are to believe that this gang that doesn’t shoot straight can issue another plan next month that will work where the previous attempts have failed?
