Negroponte Moves Back To State

by Steve

I'm not sure what to make of John Negroponte's move from Director of National Intelligence back to Number Two at State, to be replaced with former Navy Admiral Mike McConnell, who is on good terms with Dick Cheney. The Post spins this as something good for Condi, as she was having trouble finding people to work for her and was apparently recruiting Negroponte to come back to State and take over the Iraq and other regional duties. And there were reports that Negroponte was standing up to Cheney and defending the intelligence community from the hawks at the Pentagon.

I hope the Democrats ensure that the confirmation hearings on both men are informative.
