Open Thread - No Place is Off-Limits to Drilling Edition

by Mary

Bush's energy policy has gotten hunters and the NRA riled up because in the constant trade off between habitat and energy, hunters and the animals they hunt consistently lose. Yet, Bush is so beholding to the energy moguls that he can't seem to find enough habitat to sacrifice in the search for America's "energy security."

President Bush lifted a ban Tuesday on oil and gas drilling in Alaska's Bristol Bay, an area known for its endangered whales and the world's largest run of sockeye salmon.

The action clears the way for the Interior Department to open 5.6 million acres of the fish-rich waters northwest of the Alaska Peninsula as part of its next five-year leasing plan.

So I guess fishermen should be thrilled to hear about this new venture, right?

Your turn now.
