Bush And Gonzales Are Joined At The Hip

by Steve

The next time you see Bush stand there and act like an innocent bystander when Alberto Gonzales is the topic of conversation, remember this story by Murray Waas. Bush personally closed down an investigation by the DOJ into Gonzales’ role as White House counsel in authorizing the administration’s illegal domestic spying program. Given this intervention by Bush to protect his AG and himself, he clearly sees Abu still as his personal attorney first, and AG second.

As such, it is ridiculous to accept the right wing talking point that the White House and DOJ weren’t working in concert here. If the president has no problem shutting down an investigation centering on possible illegality inside the White House, sacking eight federal prosecutors for not being political executioners is child’s play.
