Bush Calls Democrats Traitors

by Mary

In his weekly radio show, George W Bush said the Democrats are handing the enemy a victory.

"Instead of approving this funding, Democrats in Congress have spent the past 68 days pushing legislation that would undercut our troops," he said in his weekly radio address. "They passed bills that would impose restrictions on our military commanders and set an arbitrary date for withdrawal from Iraq, giving our enemies the victory they desperately want."

The article goes on to reinforce the Republican talking point that Democrats are using the funding bill as a political football instead of noting that Bush was preparing to accuse the Democrats for having to extend the troop deployments. (emphasis mine)

[Democrats] seized on this week's announcement that troops' combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan are being extended by three months as evidence that Bush's policies are failing.

Who's guilty of using the Iraq war as a political football? Nancy Pelosi gets it exactly right in her response.

The announcement "just underscores the fact that the burden of the war in Iraq has fallen upon our troops and their families," said Pelosi, D-Calif. "The Bush administration has failed to create a plan to fully equip and train our troops, bring them home safely and soon, and provide our veterans with the quality care they deserve."

Americans know that trusting Bush to make the right decisions in the war are futile. Nothing this man touches is good and he continues to play power games over the lives of our soldiers just because he is too stubborn and too stupid to admit he is in over his head.
