Yesterday, Condi clouded the “get tough with Iran” message by beseeching them to attend the next regional meeting on Iraq. Iran waffled like the good negotiators they are, and said they may not attend as long as the Americans were holding five Iranian personnel inside Iraq without charging them with anything. Since it is important for Iran and Syria to be involved in these discussions, one wondered how much longer the tough line on Iran’s nuclear program would remain. Now we know.
The United States and other world powers are willing to consider an Iranian proposal that would allow the country to keep some of its uranium enrichment program intact instead of dismantling it completely, foreign government officials said Tuesday.
