As the Senate votes 51-48 to send an instant veto to Bush, the Iraqis follow their script dictated to them by the White House and criticize the Senate vote:

Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said the vote was not helpful.
“We see some negative signs in the decision because it sends wrong signals to some sides that might think of alternatives to the political process,” al-Dabbagh said. “Coalition forces gave lots of sacrifices and they should continue their mission, which is building Iraqi security forces to take over.”

Mr. al-Dabbagh, you are the only person left in the world who still thinks the Americans are there to build Iraqi forces to take over. Given that your government has met none of its commitments over the last year; refuses to take responsibility for its own security; is quite willing to keep letting Americans die for your avoidance of those responsibilities; and has already stated itself that it wants to take over by the end of 2007, how does a March 2008 timeline affect that?

Mr. al-Dabbagh, please tell Dan Bartlett to write a better script next time, because we've had our fill of dying while guys like you hide out from your responsibilities.
