Taking Ownership Of Bush's War

by Steve

On a day when 60% of the American public wanted Congress to attach a withdrawal timeline to the war funding bill, virtually the entire Democratic leadership in each house rubber stamped Bush's auto pilot war with no real strings. And Rahm Emanuel's DCCC had the gall afterward tonight to send out an email asking for contributions in celebration of the Democrats' victory today.

I hope the DSCC and DCCC have fun getting their money from the corporate paymasters that now own them, because I suspect it will be a cold day in hell before the grassroots begins giving again.

In all its painful detail, here are the Senate Democrats who just voted to send Bush his war funding without any timeline (and yes, Clinton, Obama, and Dodd all voted “no”):

Akaka (D-HI)
Baucus (D-MT)
Bayh (D-IN)
Biden (D-DE)
Bingaman (D-NM)
Brown (D-OH)
Byrd (D-WV)
Cantwell (D-WA)
Cardin (D-MD)
Carper (D-DE)
Casey (D-PA)
Conrad (D-ND)
Dorgan (D-ND)
Durbin (D-IL)
Feinstein (D-CA)
Harkin (D-IA)
Inouye (D-HI)
Klobuchar (D-MN)
Kohl (D-WI)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Levin (D-MI)
Lincoln (D-AR)

Menendez (D-NJ)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Murray (D-WA)
Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Reed (D-RI)
Reid (D-NV)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
Salazar (D-CO)
Stabenow (D-MI)
Tester (D-MT)
Webb (D-VA)

You'll note a lot of committee chairs on that list.

The House Democrats who just rubber-stamped Bush’s war without end are (and yes, Murtha voted for the auto pilot war):

Altmire
