Pace Will Be Replaced At Pentagon
Days after it was revealed that Joint Chief Chairman Peter Pace wrote a letter in support of Scooter Libby, thereby endorsing the destruction of an intelligence asset for political purposes, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced today that he will not recommend Pace for another term due to difficulties in getting him past a confirmation process. Gates wants to make a fresh start with the next Chairman by nominating the Chief of Naval Operations.
The official line of course is that this will benefit Pace personally, and allow him to retire with great benefits. I notice that Gates is now lining up two Navy guys at the Chairman's slot and at CENTCOM, both of whom endorse the "long war" concept and pay close attention to Iran.
