At Least Scooter Won't Talk Now

Bush just spared Scooter from serving any time by commuting his prison sentence. Why am I not surprised? Yet Bush did not pardon him, leaving Scooter with his $250,000 fine and two years probation.

My decision to commute his prison sentence leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby. The reputation he gained through his years of public service and professional work in the legal community is forever damaged," Bush said in a statement. "I respect the jury's verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive."

I don't think Bush will be getting a holiday card from Judge Reggie Walton anytime soon.

Bush feels that a prison sentence is excessive for a Republican who lies to the FBI and a grand jury, and wastes an intelligence asset at the direction of Dick Cheney. It's SOP at a White House where Karl Rove's clearance was recently renewed.

But if a Democrat lies to the grand jury about his sex life, the GOP insists that he be removed from office.

I think Paris Hilton wins this year's profiles in courage award over Scooter, huh?

The next time you hear a Republican bellow about the Rule of Law when it comes to illegal immigrants, think of their doublestandard when it comes to rich white Republicans.
