You probably heard that touch-screen electronic voting machines were put to the test in California and they got an F in security. That didn't surprise me because all the evidence has been that the systems were built by people who didn't know or care too much about security. But one thing that did surprise me is for all the noise about how these systems were necessary because they make it possible for the disabled to vote, the report finds that there are flaws in these systems that make them hard for the disabled to use. So they didn't even meet that the one requirement.
So what should be done to fix the problem? What Dave says: Prove it! Use the touchscreen system to generate actual ballots that can be counted reliably by hand.
Your turn now.
