Richardson Picks Up Key NH Endorsement

by Ken Camp

Today, Governor Bill Richardson picked up a key New Hampshire backer when Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand, an up-and-comer in the New Hampshire Democratic political establishment, endorsed him.

Mayor Marchand will join the Richardson for President campaign as a Senior Advisor. He also will maintain a robust surrogate speaking schedule, traveling the Granite State and stumping on Governor Richardson's behalf.

"Bill Richardson is the most experienced candidate in the race, the most determined to end the war in Iraq, and the most capable of bringing about the real change that America needs," Marchand said.

Marchand, who until last month was a candidate for U.S. Senate (he kept his word by withdrawing when Jeanne Shaheen entered the race), is the latest in a string of endorsements picked up by Governor Richardson. Previously, Richardson earned the endorsements of former Manchester Mayor Bob Baines and former Ambassador and state Democratic Party Chair George Bruno.
