When thinking about mandates (ie: forcing people to buy health insurance coverage), should people only fund schools when they have kids in school or if they think they can afford to (or want to) help? Is making sure our neighbors can go to the doctor when they are sick not a shared Democratic value? If it is, then how do we make it real? The Bush years have been all about I've got mine. What is it that our country needs as we face the future? When do our obligations to each other overcome our own self-interest? It seems to me that this should be one of the big questions for this election. And the little question of mandates is one that seems especially salient tonight.
It's your thread now.
