Peddle It Somewhere Else Hillary
by Steve Soto
Some Friday morning quick hits, followed by a closing comment by me on the race that may be my last word on the Hillary/Obama contest until I return to the blog:
Stagflation
Daniel Gross of Slate affirms what I said last week: Bush has managed to bring back stagflation, which only benefits his supporters, and his Exxon energy policy whereby we are now importing more oil than in the 1970’s plays a large part in it. Consumer confidence has fallen to its lowest level since 2002, and instead of adding jobs, the Bush economy actually shed jobs in both January and February of this year.
Getting The Royal Family's Middle Finger
After Bush spent over a trillion dollars so far to remove Saddam for them, the Saudis thanked us by refusing this week through OPEC to increase oil output, and then rubbed salt in the wound by accusing Bush of economic mismanagement. Amazing chutzpah, and yet true. With such gratitude, the next American president should tell the Saudis they can deal with Iran and Pakistan all by themselves. We can get our asses out of the region and put in place an energy policy that eventually will end the Saudi and Israeli stranglehold on our foreign policy.
The Surge Is Working - Oh, Wait
The media isn’t noticing anymore, but the days of coordinated bombings by the allegedly cooperative Sunnis against the ruling Shiites in Baghdad have returned, due in large part to the al-Maliki government’s unwillingness to push faster ahead with reconciliation. Why should they? They have an American military umbrella that allows them to do nothing because nothing is expected of them by this administration for the remainder of 2008.
Margin Calls For The Wicked
The Carlyle Group, home to George H. W. Bush, Frank Carlucci, and James Baker is tanking.
Lastly, it's time for me to step out of the sh*tstorm and take a shower to wash off the slime and disappointment. I’ve had enough of the Clinton fluffing of McCain, and I’m done with her. Frankly I’ve looked foolish trying to defend her and her campaign’s burn-the-house-down-to-get-the-nomination strategy, and I’m tired of seeing this message and these tactics. Politics at this level is not softball, but as I have said before, being an arsonist does not recommend one for the party’s nomination.
