All Monica, All The Time

by Steve Soto

As you may have heard by now, the Clinton Library released Hillary’s calendar today from her eight years as First Lady.

So what’s the first thing in the AP's story?

Hillary Rodham Clinton was home in the White House on a half dozen days when her husband had sexual encounters there with intern Monica Lewinsky, according to Sen. Clinton's schedule, released Wednesday among 11,000 pages of papers from her years as first lady.

Glad to see we’re focusing on matters of substance here.

How did some of the others handle this story? Well, the NYT, which walked quickly away from its John McCain/Vicki Iseman story after getting bitch-slapped by McCain and the right wing assault machine (even though the influence peddling aspects of the story were never refuted) ran a 28-paragraph story on the release of Hillary's calendar. And how many paragraphs did they devote to Monica in this story?

Nine out of 28. More than a third.

For comparison, the Washington Post ran a 30-paragraph story yet dedicated only 2 paragraphs to Lewinsky.
