And speaking of dirty tricks...
A couple months ago, some dimwitted Obama bloggers made a big deal of the fact that the Clintons had once been photographed with Tony Rezko. Of course, as President and First Lady, the Clintons were photographed with tens of thousands of people. Politics. And it didn't take much effort to research the fact that neither Rezko nor any member of his family had ever given any campaign money to the Clintons. But both he and his family had given plenty to Barack Obama. So, these dimwitted bloggers tried to take a cheap shot at the Clintons, but it only served to highlight their own candidate's questionable personal judgment. Well, dimwits can't help repeating themselves.
Today, some of these same dimwitted bloggers made a big deal of the fact that then-President Bill Clinton once was photographed with Jeremiah Wright. At a National Prayer Breakfast. Which are attended by all manner of clergy from across the political spectrum. And, of course, there is absolutely no evidence that President Clinton knew anything about Wright. There is no evidence he knew anything about Wright's occassionally inflammatory rhetoric. But beyond that, these dimwitted bloggers once again don't realize that by drawing an extremely loose connection between a Clinton and a politically damaging someone with whom Obama had a close connection, they only further publicize the fact that Obama had a close connection with someone politically damaging. But the story gets worse.
During one of the most difficult periods in the presidency of Bill Clinton, he addressed a group of clerics at an annual prayer breakfast in September 1998 just as the Starr report outlining his dalliance with Monica Lewinsky was about to be published.
Among those in attendance, was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., who is seen shaking hands with Mr. Clinton in a photograph provided today by the Obama campaign. Mr. Wright’s relationship with Senator Barack Obama, as his longtime pastor, has been the subject of considerable controversy in recent days because of incendiary excerpts of sermons Mr. Wright gave at their church, Trinity United Church of Christ, in Chicago.
Just two days after Senator Obama gave an already famous speech on race relations, his own campaign uses his own politically damaging relationship in an attempt to smear the Clintons. Not only does this reek of desperation, it's a cheap shot and only serves to once again draw attention to Obama's close personal relationship with Jeremiah Wright.
In providing the photograph to The New York Times, the Obama campaign appeared to be trying to divert some attention to the Clintons after a week in which Mr. Obama’s relationship with Mr. Wright has left him facing one of the biggest challenges of his campaign. There is nothing in the picture or the note that addresses whether Mr. Clinton had met Mr. Wright prior to the White House meeting or whether he or Mrs. Clinton knew anything about Mr. Wright’s views.
But Obama did know of Wright's views. And despite those views, Obama had a close personal relationship with Wright for twenty years. Wright married the Obamas. Wright baptized their children. Wright inspired the title of Obama's book. And I wouldn't be reminding you of any of this had the Obama campaign not made a stupid and sleazy attempt to spill some of their own political garbage onto the Clintons.
