McCain Chronicles: In Foreign Hands

by Steve Soto

McCain’s lobbyist problems aren’t going away, especially now that the media has finally noticed. The Washington Post noted this morning that Obama launched a direct attack at McCain for having a campaign fully run by lobbyists and registered foreign agents. McCain’s feeble defense is that at least his campaign was so infested with these rodents that he had to institute a sham policy to paper over the problem, to a degree that his own supporters wonder why he gave Obama the opening in the first place. The doddering imbecile also complained that Obama is using irrelevant issues like foreign and corporate control of our government to avoid “more serious issues”, like McCain’s equating Iran with the Soviet Union. The New York Times noted today that McCain’s attempt to go clean on this issue only highlights the degree to which his campaign is run by people who make a living representing everyone except Main Street America.

It’s also a sign of the times that a man who supposedly is the Post’s media critic just now is noticing that McCain is simultaneously fluffing the media while pounding them for stories that don’t fit the campaign’s narrative. Howard Kurtz notes that the McCain team routinely challenges reporters on negative stories, without challenging the facts, and has in one case resorted to an inaccurate story from Fox News to make its case. Go figure. The sooner McCain’s buddies in the back of the bus understand that they are being managed as extensions of the campaign, the better for all of us.
