Stall And Bomb

by Steve Soto

At the same time the Government Accountability Office issues a report that slams the Pentagon and Bush Administration for being unable to accurately measure how things are going in Iraq or move beyond the surge, the aforementioned Pentagon issues a report saying that Iran is the greatest long-term threat to Iraq and that things are going swell in the country. In short, the administration responded to the GAO report by saying it didn’t need any new plans.

Of course they don’t. This administration doesn’t have a plan for Iraq past the escalation and never intended to develop one. The extent of their planning for Iraq can be summed up in two main objectives:

1. Pass the problem onto its successor; and
2. Attack Iran if Obama will win.

That’s their whole plan for Iraq. It’s short, simple, and can fit on one index card. Bush can leave office, with a feeling of accomplishment that he checked off the "Iraq" and "Iran" boxes on his "Axis of Evil To Do" list, to go along with his checked box for North Korea. He and Shooter will happily hand a flaming Middle East to President-elect Obama and not care at all that they set fire to the place on the way out the door.

And best of all, their disaster capitalist and Big Oil buddies are guaranteed years of profit opportunities as a result.
