With Friends Like These . . . .

by Steve Soto

Exactly how well is Bush managing the war on terror when two of his critical allies are ready to kill each other?

The Afghan government for the first time publicly accused the Pakistani intelligence service on Wednesday of organizing the failed plot to assassinate President Hamid Karzai at a parade in Kabul in April.
In a news conference in Kabul, Sayeed Ansari, the spokesman for the Afghan intelligence service, said Afghan authorities had evidence of the direct involvement of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, in the assassination attempt.

Bush has given them billions since 9/11 because they are allegedly our chief allies in fighting the WOT. The ISI continues its decades-old support for the Taliban and tries to rub out Karzai, in an effort to destabilize the country while NATO has troops there fighting to hold things together. And Cheney has visited the region recently himself, yet this somehow wasn't on our radar screen as something to raise with Pakistan?

Tell me again what Condi does for a living besides buy shoes?
