The Veepstakes Game
A lot of people think Joe Biden soon will be named Barack Obama's running mate. Different people have different reasons for not being thrilled. Markos thinks it would undermine the whole "change" thing, but I've never bought into that, anyway; and Markos would like Obama to select someone like Kathleen Sebelius, whom I generally like, but who would make it very easy for McCain and his media lackeys to paint the Democrats as too inexperienced. Jeralyn has other problems with Biden, paricularly on crime issues. I like Biden on some issues, but his support for the ban on the D&X procedure (which the "Religious" Wrong has succeeded in getting commonly labeled the incorrect and misleading "partial birth abortion"), and his opposition to public funding of abortions, make him less than an advocate for a woman's right to choose. Beyond that, Biden's having supported the Iraq War Resolution would seem troubling to those Obama supporters who vilified Hillary Clinton for having made the same vote. Of course, I'm not expecting to hear much criticism from those Hillary-haters, should Biden be the choice. Big Tent Democrat continues to believe that the best choice would be Hillary Clinton. I agree. Joan Walsh and digby aren't enthused by the entire Veepstakes Game. I agree. One thing I think we can all agree on is that no matter how disappointing Obama's choice, McCain's will be ridiculous.
